Why Does Nassau County Need Communities In Schools?

Schools alone cannot solve the complex and diverse problems
faced by today's youth.

Too many of our young people are:
• Struggling academically
• Feeling overwhelmed or confused
• Dropping out of school
• Succumbing to peer pressure
• Turning to drugs and/or alcohol

What is Communities In Schools?
Communities In Schools (CIS) is a private, nonprofit organization that connects much needed community resources with students struggling for any reason in today's challenging world. We utilize the power of partnerships to serve students, parents, schools and communities, delivering services directly to students or finding appropriate referral services.

Why CIS?
Measurable results show it works! In an independent study performed by the Florida Chamber of Commerce Cornerstone Foundation, it was recommended "every community in Florida should have a CIS program."

How Does CIS Work?
CIS works with principals, teachers, counselors, students and parents to develop a comprehensive strategy to assist students by bringing community resources into the schools where they are needed most, during or after school hours.

“Communities In Schools has been instrumental in helping us strengthen the support from our communities for the success of our students.
